Directions to Building T-39 Aerobics Facility,

National Institutes of Health, at Wisconsin Ave. & South Drive, Bethesda, MD

Note: All visitors must now enter the NIH campus through the new Gateway Center at "NIH Gateway Drive," just south of the intersection of Rockville Pike (Wisconsin Ave.) & South Drive, where the Metro station is located.

For evening classes, arrive before 8:00 pm.
Remember that each person will need a picture I.D
Allow at least 15 minutes for security check: all must get out of the car for wanding, and trunk will need to be opened.

The Gateway Center is open for vehicle inspection 5 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Friday. For WEEKEND vehicle entry, enter via the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility (CVIF), and follow the separate driving directions through the NIH campus.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495) to the Gateway Center Complex:

Take Capital Beltway (I-495) to Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue).
Take Wisconsin Avenue (Route 355) SOUTH.
After about 1.3 miles, pass South Drive (the 5th light).
Turn RIGHT into the Gateway Center Complex (look for "Visitor Parking" signs).

From the exit of the Gateway inspection facility to T-39:

Turn RIGHT out of the security checkpoint road (at stop sign) onto Center Drive.
Turn LEFT onto Medlars Drive (there is a street sign). It is identifiable by the "stop for pedestrians" sign in the middle of the road. Building 38 is on the left.
Bear RIGHT (still on Medlars Drive). You will see a very large Quonset hut to the left.
Bear RIGHT again (still on Medlars Drive) and drive between the Jersey walls (Building 41 will be on the left).
After passing between the Jersey walls, T-39 is straight ahead.

PARKING: Either turn LEFT in front of T-39 into the parking lot for Building 41 OR turn RIGHT in front of T-39 on the LEFT and turn LEFT into the lot just past T-39.
ENTERING T-39: Go up the iron stairs, at the end of the building farthest from the T-39 lot.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495) to the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility (CVIF) for WEEKEND ENTRY:

Take Capital Beltway (I-495) to Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue).
Take Wisconsin Avenue (Route 355) SOUTH.
After about 1 mile, pass North Drive.
Turn RIGHT into the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility (look for "Delivery Entrance" signs).

From the exit of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility (CVIF) to T-39:

Turn LEFT out of the CVIF onto East Drive.
Turn RIGHT on Wilson Drive.
Turn LEFT on Center Drive.
Turn RIGHT on South Drive.
Turn LEFT on Service Road West.
Turn LEFT on Medlars Drive.
PARKING: Either park in the lot on your RIGHT as you approach T-39 on Medlars Drive OR drive past T-39 and turn RIGHT to park in the lot beyond the building.
ENTERING T-39: Go up the iron stairs, at the end of the building farthest from the T-39 lot.

Vehicles can NOT exit from the Gateway Center or CVIF. Driving directions to the South Drive/Rockville Pike entrance from the T-39 parking lot:

From the T-39 parking lot, turn LEFT onto Medlars Drive (T-39 parking lot on LEFT side of road)
Turn RIGHT onto Service Road West.
Turn RIGHT onto South Drive
Exit by the Metro station onto Rockville Pike (MD-355)
