The 2026 Between the Rivers Team - North American Festival

Following the success of the North American Team at the 2024 and 2025 Newcastle Scottish Country Dance Festival, this year the Teachers' Association (Canada) Youth Committee is presenting the inaugural North American Festival on April 4, 2026, in Philadelphia, PA! For more information about the Festival, see the MailChimp message archive.

Dancers from DC, MD, and VA have joined together to form the Between the Rivers Team, and will be entering in the Social Demonstration, Open Technique (MacNab Dances), and Display categories. Since January the dancers have been working very hard to learn the dances and choreography and polish their dancing skills. They are looking forward to performing at the festival, to live music from DC area band Waverley Station - David Knight, fiddle and Liz Donaldson, piano.

Participation in this Festival is a fantastic opportunity for the Between the Rivers Team members to dance with dancers from other DC area dance groups, meet dancers from the wider North American SCD community, improve their dancing and teamwork skills, and share their love of Scottish Country Dancing.

Support the 2026 Between the Rivers Team!

If you'd like to attend the Festival and cheer on the Between the Rivers Team, spectator tickets are $10. There will be a few dances for all during the day, between events, with musicians Jane Roberts, Adam Oleksa and Dan Emery. The evening dance musicians are Waverley Station with Dan Emery. Evening dance tickets are $40-60 sliding scale, $20 for students/low income, or $10 for dancers under 18. The TAC Youth Committee asks that you please register and purchase tickets in advance.

You can also support the team by making a donation. The Between the Rivers team is jointly sponsored by the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC Branches of the RSCDS. Both Branches will be contributing towards team expenses for renting practice venues, paying musicians, and providing team t-shirts. Team members are also chipping in by covering their own tickets for the evening dance, travel and lodging expenses, plus attire for the festival other than the team shirts.

Due to the team's commitment to doing their best at the Festival they have asked for additional practices beyond those originally scheduled! Unfortunately, rental fees for venues are the highest expense. Branch costs are estimated to be about $2000, not including individual team member costs for travel, lodging and attire, which could be up to about $300 per person. Funds raised will defray costs for team members needing assistance, supplement Branch contributions to the team, and go towards additional fees for our fabulous musicians! Any funds raised over costs will go to the Between the Rivers Fund.
