News & Information for Northern Virginia Branch Class

Classes

The Northern Virginia Branch offers in-person classes year-round on Thursdays (except holidays) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Starting on January 4, 2024 we'll offer two in-person classes, a beginner class and a general class.

All classes meet in person at The Woman's Club of Arlington, 700 S. Buchanan St., Arlington, VA.

Spring 2024 monthly Zoom classes will be on the following Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET: January 24, February 28, and March 20. There is a $5 Zoom class drop-in fee, which can be paid at the PayPal link under General Classes. For further information, please email rscdsnova@gmail.com.

Beginner Classes

Scottish Country Dancing has been enjoyed in the barns, ballrooms and village halls of Scotland for at least 250 years. You don't need a partner, since it's common practice to dance with different partners during a night of dancing, and you don't need to have Scottish heritage, either!

Perfect for people with no or limited experience in dance, Scottish Country Dancing is a social activity!

For class, it's best to wear soft-soled sneakers, jazz or ballet shoes; loaner dance shoes, or ghillies, are also available.

Beginning dancers are welcome to join our nine-week spring 2024 beginner class, which we call our FUNdamentals class, starting on January 4, 2024. The class will cover all of the key dance steps and basic figures, so that you can feel confident as you reel and jig to lively Scottish music. Dancers of all experience levels who want to concentrate on the basics are welcome to dance in this class. The FUNdamentals class fee for new first-time daners is $60 for all 9 sessions, payable by the third class on January 18, 2024.

The FUNdamentals class meets at the same time as the General class in Arlington, and joins the General class at the end of each session to practice what you've learned.
